Greetings from Ridley High School’s virtual library! While our school building is closed for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual library is always open! Please keep an eye on this space for daily tips on reading recommendations, research help, free resources, and more!

TODAY’S TIP: Need access to more eBook options and research content to complete at-home assignments for classes? EBSCO wants to help! They have made five eBook collections accessible to all Pennsylvanians through June 30, 2020.

The available eBook collections are:

Ridley High School students will be especially interested in the High School Collection. Search for any topic of interest, or click on the eBooks link in the upper left-hand corner to browse by category. Explore a diverse range of topics including Biographies, Cooking, Humor, Study Aids, and True Crime. I was especially happy to discover almost 300 results when I searched for “graphic novels,” including one of my all-time favorites, The Best We Could Do by Thi Bui. Long-time Ridley High School “loan star” My Friend Dahmer by Derf Backderf is available, too! EBSCO eBooks are also an amazing resource for research projects. For example, a search for “fracking” brought up seven books, each perfectly suited to high school research. Every title is available as either PDF or EPUB full text, with options to save titles to your Google Drive, download the entire eBook, email them to yourself for future access, and (or course) properly cite your sources!

The first three results for a search on “fracking.”

Remember that to access this e-resource from home, you will need either a public library card number or POWER Library eCard number. If you do not have a public library card, please sign up for an eCard. (Note that you will need a personal email from gmail, yahoo, or a provider other than ridleysd.org in order to authenticate your eCard.) And remember, Ms. Pickett is always available at apickett@ridleysd.org to assist with research questions!

Until we meet again in the library, please stay safe … stay healthy … stay home.
