“Chapter Chat” with PA Author Dianne Salerni!

On Wednesday, December 2, Pennsylvania author Dianne Salerni stopped by the Ridley High School Library. She was the guest of honor at a “Chapter Chat” that was part of Hey-YA Needs Diversity, a Ridley Professional Institute course. All of the teachers in the class read Dianne’s historical young adult novel, The Caged Graves, and enjoyed talking with the author about how she was inspired to write the book and what other projects she has in the works. The Caged Graves is a Civil War-era novel set in Catawissa, PA, that explores the mystery of why two — and only two — graves in the area are enclosed in iron cages. These “mortsafes” are real, and right here in PennsylvaniaWe truly loved the book and our time with Dianne, and look forward to sharing The Caged Graves with our students!Salerni_Visit

Lunch with a Local Author, Part II

On Thursday, July 9, Pennsylvania author Tiffany Schmidt stopped by the Ridley High School Library. She was the guest of honor at a Lunch with a Local Author, which was part of the brand new Ridley Professional Institute course called Hey-YA Needs Diversity. Tiffany is the author of the young adult novels Send Me a Sign, Bright Before Sunrise, and Hold Me Like a Breath. She also recently wrote the wonderful picture book, The Adventures of Black Dog. Each of the teachers in Hey-YA Needs Diversity read her choice of Tiffany’s books. This made for a lively discussion about how she finds inspiration for her writing, the publishing business, and what amazing books we need to add to our “to-read” lists. Getting to know Tiffany and learning more about her young adult novels has made us even more excited to share them with our students this coming school year!
