The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, is one of my favorite books. The book is written for young adult readers who enjoy science fiction novels. In the beginning of the book, Thomas, the main character, wakes up in a box with no memory of this previous life except for his name. When the box opens it reveals a huge glade full of other boys who can not remember their previous lives. Thomas then meets the leaders, Abby and Newt, who show him around the Glade. Life is not great in the Glade but the boys make the best of what they have. The next day, after Thomas arrives, a girl arrives through the same box. It is the first girl to enter the Glade ever. The girl, whose name is Teresa, arrives in a coma with a note saying everything will change. Now Thomas and his new friends must exit the Glade and find a way out of the Maze. The problem is the maze is filled with monsters called Grievers who are extremely deadly. Thomas, Teresa, and the others now go on an epic adventure to try to find a way out if the maze.
I really enjoyed this book because it was fast paced and exciting. Once you start reading you won’t want to put it down. One problem I have with the book is I wish the ending could have been better. The ending did not wrap everything up because this is the first book of a series, but I wish it did. The Maze Runner is an excellent book and I would highly recommend it.
