On October 20th, New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins came to Ridley High School! Ten teachers brought a total of 250 students to the auditorium to hear Ms. Hopkins speak about her writing career and how her daughter’s experiences with addiction inspired her first and best-loved book, CRANK. She also discussed writing RUMBLE, her brand new novel. The audience was really moved by these glimpses into the author’s life, especially her stories of how her family has been affected by “Kristina’s” addiction to crystal meth. Many students purchased books and had them signed by the author after her talk wrapped up. Teacher comments included: “It was amazing – thanks for having us” …. “[My students] were thrilled to have their book signed by the author!” … and “It was super!” Special thanks to Children’s Book World in Haverford, PA, for making this event possible.
