The Kindles Have Arrived!

Thanks to the generosity of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, The Ridley High School Library is pleased to offer Kindles for student use!

The Kindle is a handheld reading device with a 6-inch screen. The screen’s “E-Ink” technology prevents eye strain. Kindles are lighter and thinner than most paperback books. They have eight font sizes and three font styles to choose from. The Kindles also feature a built-in dictionary and options for highlighting and taking notes.

Each Kindle has fifteen books for students to choose from. These books are Pennsylvania Young Readers’ Choice Award nominees. To participate in this program, students will read at least three of the nominees and vote for their favorite in March of 2012. The nominated books include Matched by Ally Condie, Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry, and Flash Burnout by L.K. Madigan. Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, last year’s PA Young Readers’ Choice Award winner, is also available on the Kindles. So is Suzanne Collins’ entire Hunger Games series!

For the 2011-2012 school year, the Kindles will be available for use on school property only. Stop by the library today to check one out!

  1. The Kindles are a great way to read books; it helps me read more clearly, and I am thinking about buying one myself. I recommend that the school keeps buying Kindles for the students to read. It is a really good way to make the students of Ridley High School keep reading during Ridley reads.
