Every once in a while, a book comes along with a premise so unique that it’s sure to be a popular pageturner. Numbers by Rachel Ward is that kind of book. Here’s the plot in a nutshell: When 15-year old Jem looks into someone’s eyes, she sees the exact date that they will die. Understandably, she tries to avoid people and relationships so that she won’t have to look anyone in the eye. Despite herself she ends up befriending another misfit, a boy named Spider. Their day trip to the London Eye Ferris wheel ends in disaster when Jem realizes that all the tourists there have the same death date: that day.
