Read the best of the best!

2009 is winding down, and lots of newspapers and magazines are putting together “Best of” lists for movies, music, TV shows, and BOOKS! Reading these lists is a great way to get ideas about what book to read next. I always make sure that the Ridley High School Library is stocked with all the year’s best reads. School Library Journal just published their “Best Books 2009” list, which includes the following novels and memoirs for teens:

  • Hate List by Jennifer Brown
  • Fire by Kristin Cashore
  • Liar by Justine Larbalestier
  • The Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd
  • Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
  • Stitches: A Memoir by David Small
  • Creature of the Night by Kate Thompson
  • Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
  • I’m Down: A Memoir by Mishna Wolff

All of these books look great, but I am especially looking forward to Liar by Justine Larbalestier. This novel is already getting rave reviews from Mrs. McGinley! Here’s a quick summary:

Having told too many lies to count, Micah is justifiably known by all as a compulsive liar. But when her boyfriend is murdered, truth and fiction are blurred in entirely new ways. Micah must come to terms with the damage she has done through the complex web of deceit she has woven.
